Skills Training Class for Parents of Children with Anxiety

WHAT IS THE CLASS?

We are offering an 8 week skills class based on the evidence-based Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) program from Yale School of Medicine Child Study Center.

FOR WHAT PURPOSE?

Parenting a child with anxiety can be challenging, frustrating, and exhausting. Parents may feel ineffective and hopeless, and getting their child to come to therapy adds another layer of difficulty. There is evidence to support that parents skills training is highly effective and addresses the anxiety problem at a family system level. This course helps parents change their own behavior which has an impact on the system. The goal of skills training is to decrease parental accommodation of the child’s anxiety and anxious behavior(s) in a planned out, loving, and supportive way, which will indirectly lead to behavior change in the child.
